How to Unlock Every Commander in Dicevaders

Dicevaders has ten commanders. Three are open from your first run; the other seven each come with a Steam achievement named “Unlock ”. The developers have not published a list of conditions, so this page puts together what the game shows in 1.0 runs with the Steam unlock rates.

The unlock ladder

BatchCommandersWhat unlocks themSteam players with the unlock
StartThe Captain, Blob Girl, The CoreAvailable on a new save (they were the demo’s three)—
Batch 2Whisperer, Hex Prince, The RiftmakerClearing Chapter 160.9%, 51.3%, 50.3%
Batch 3The Duchess, Blood Beast, The ExaltedBeating the third pilot of Chapter 232.3%, 31.0%, 30.0%
LastThe OverseerA later clear; shown as a “secret boss” unlock in one video15.4%

How we got there. In Olexa’s 1.0 video, finishing a chapter “unlocked a new chapter” and “three more characters”, including Whisperer, and the select screen then said the next ones need the third pilot of Chapter 2 defeated. A Steam player also reported getting Hex Prince’s unlock achievement right after beating Chapter 1. The Steam rates fit that ladder: batch 2 sits just under the 65.1% Chapter 1 clear rate, batch 3 just under the 46.4% Chapter 2 rate. The Overseer’s 15.4% is close to the Chapter 4 clear rate (17.3%), but no source states her exact condition yet.

Unlocking items, not just commanders

Commanders also unlock their own items as you play. Olexa’s run shows a new “chance to find this perk during a run with the commander” message for Monocle, The Captain’s perk that makes lone Base Dice count as pairs. Each commander has six such items; they are listed on the artifact page.

Known issue

On launch day a player reported that the Hex Prince achievement unlocked after Chapter 1 while Hex Prince did not appear selectable. If that happens, restart the game before reporting it with the in-game F2 form.

Which unlock to aim for first

  • Whisperer is the most common unlock (60.9%); her Apples turn into Mini-Dice and artifact XP when destroyed.
  • The Riftmaker turns its Rift face into extra dice in every column and gains +1 Chrono each time it launches.
  • The Overseer is the payoff: she merges two other commanders’ kits, at the cost of faster-scaling defense.

Full kits for all ten are on the commander page.
